2016 has become to be “The Year of the Brown” and MAC Velvet Teddy may just be ‘the’ lipstick of the moment. With the dark nude Kylie Jenner liptrend currently in full swing, spanning the whole spectrum from deep chocolate tones to browny nudes, I dived straight in and picked up Velvet Teddy on my recent trip to MAC. It seemed to be more of a subtle brown that’s easy to wear, as I don’t think I’d suit deep brown shades.
The colour of MAC Velvet Teddy is very unique but at the same time it’s a pretty safe colour. It’s a light brown colour with a slight terracotta to it. It has less pink in it than Mehr but is less brown than Whirl. It appears different depending on your skin tone. For some it’s a peachy nude shade, for others it’s a warm brown nude. On my lips it appears more like a warm brown. Very similar to my own lip shade, just more on the brown side. Because it is still kind of nude-y on me, it fades nicely through out the day and I don’t have to worry about touching it up.
The colour pay off on Velvet Teddy is amazing, and I’d expect no less from MAC. Just one swipe of the product gives an even smooth finish and the lasting power of this product is great. It’s creamy and applies smoothly straight from the bullet. I personally don’t feel that it’s necessary to require a lip liner with it. While most lipsticks with a matte finish tend to be drying on lips. Then Velvet Teddy, similarly to Mehr, is one of those ‘hydrating’ matte lipsticks. It doesn’t accentuate any dry patches on your lips, but I’d still recommend scrubbing your lips before applying it.
If you’re a bit apprehensive to try out brown lips, I’d recommend you to go to the MAC counter and try out Velvet Teddy. I actually started off with Mehr and builded up mu courage to purchased Velvet Teddy. And now I’m fully loving it. Also if you’re into Kylie Jenner lip trend, then this is one of the must have lipsticks!
Have you tried out Velve Teddy? What do you think about “The Year of the Brown”?
Have a great weekend!
